Product Review + PICS: Black Radiance True Complexion Refining Primer

To be someone who is beauty obsessed, I haven't strolled down a beauty aisle in a while. Work, exhaustion, and limited time have left me wanting my bed in my free time instead of heading to my nearby drugstore, Ulta, or Sephora and buying and testing products.

Black Radiance has been releasing products quite frequently as of late and I decided to pick up their new creme contour palette and their silicone primer on a whim a few weeks back. When Mally Beauty released their Evercolor Poreless Face Defender a few years ago, it dominated the market before dupes started to pop up. Black Radiance in on the low end of the cost spectrum when it comes to their price ranges, so I was interested in testing this baby out on my oily skin and give you all feedback. Keep reading to see how it held up!

Before Work

Around 8:45 a.m. at home in air conditioning.

Lunch Break

My day job is in retail management, and we received our shipment on this day, so I put in a little more work than usual. You can start to see the oil breaking through around my nose and my cheeks. I did not like the level of shine but did not blot my face because I wanted to give an honest review.

After Work

This picture actually tones my face down. It was overcast all day, so you really can't tell that my face was a grease ball. This primer did not hold up to my eight hour work day.

Final Thoughts

Application: Smooth and blended into skin well. Gave skin a matte finish after immediate application. Allowed to sink into skin about 5 minutes before applying other products.
Performance: Subpar. This product did not leave me with a matte finish all day long. By the second hour of wear, my natural oils started to break though. It did not even minimize shine as it claimed. I do not see how it claims to enhance your natural glow when it mattifies upon application. The finish did leave me looking a little ashy looking if I were to wear it alone, so I disagree with that. If you have a deeper complexion, I advise against it. I should also note that I used this primer in conjunction with the Black Radiance Soft Focus Finishing Powder and the new Creme Contour Palette. So I can't even conclude that the primer did not work because I wore products from another brand that may have an affected the performance.
Texture: Smooth, soft, balm.
Scent: Unscented.
Would I recommend to a friend? I would recommend this product to someone who has dry to combination skin. The True Complexion Shine Control Primer works much better for me and it is also by Black Radiance.

Diva's Wish List: Accessories On My Radar for Spring 2017

1. Statement Earrings

These Africa shaped hot pink earrings will be THE bombest accent to any ensemble this spring summer.

Tear drop earrings made of two different washes of denim! Love!

Melody Ehsani provides custom bamboo earring services on her site for an affordable price. I need a pair that says "Diva" like yesterday!

2. The Divalicious Handbag

I need want this Charming Charlie leopard satchel all the way in my life. I have a more casual tote in the same print, but this screams business and fashionista!

3. Chic Everyday Flats

ANGELINA Slip On Shoes

By now you should know leopard is one of my closet staples. It is a neutral in my book so I pair it wit anything from bold colors to eye-catching prints. In the warmer months, I don't really want to wear shoes to begin with but because they are necessary, it's time to get a staple shoe that I can slide in and go! I had a cognac pair of slide on sandals a few years back that I wore in the ground. It's time for an adult upgrade. I'll take this black pair too.

KARA Pointy Flats

Diva Info: Diva's Marketplace Coming Soon...April 2016!

When you're blessed with a gift or a great idea, don't wait to act on it. Nurture it and everything will fall into place.

That's exactly what I was doing before I started working on my online boutique, Diva's Marketplace. I"ve said even as a little girl, "When I grow up, I want to become a doctor, then retire and open my own boutique." Well, I took a different path career wise and never became a doctor, but my dreams of opening a little store where I could sell unique items remained.

My Type A personality prevented me from starting a store, because "I need this" or "This isn't ready." Well, I knew enough to start, and that's what I did. Diva's Marketplace is on Big Cartel right now, but I plan to water that seed so it can grow into a bigger site.  I will start small, and likely will re-release my Budda Love lip balms I mentioned last summer and evolve from there. I can't wait to share all the items I've made and sourced with you!

Things are getting real y'all! My shippers have begun to arrive, I am still waiting on my raw materials and lip balm tubes so I can get to rolling. EEEK!

A little more info: Diva's Marketplace will sell items for both men and women. All items will be unique, and often one of kind and/or handmade by moi!  So  if you see something you like, grab it!

Keep a look out at Of course, I'll announce when I'm officially open for business and taking orders. My goal is to gift myself my first order and launch my birth month of April. Stay tuned!

Diva's Life: What's Been Going On with Me Lately

Hey DC Fam!

Are you resting comfortably on this beautiful Sunday? I sure hope so.Things have been pretty quiet on here and well as my social media as of late. I mentioned before that the plague tried to take me out. I still have some congestion and a weak cough I can't seem to shake.  That may be due to me discontinuing my OTC meds I was taking because I didn't want to take them anyway. I'm at the stage now where a hot lemon tea with a dash of pepper can knock things right on out.

I posted a weight loss update about a week or so ago on Instagram  (@divachronicles). I never really followed up on it with a post like I planned (Due to the plague that tried to take me down. I have lupus, so when I get sick, I get SICK! No 24-48 hour recoveries over here, more like 7-14!) I basically shed the pounds by eating whole foods and choosing healthy snacks. I eased off on the eating out and practically eliminated fast food. Now, I'm 20 lbs lighter. My goal is to lose 10 more by my birthday, April 19. However, I've reached a plateau, and my weight has been the same for a few weeks. It's time to shake things up a bit. The struggles of losing weight are real. Not only do you have to stay disciplined and continue to eat right, but your clothes don't fit. I'm already curvy, so my waist was always smaller than my hips. When I began to lose significant weight, nothing stayed up. I was too small for my current size, but the size down didn't quuuuiiiiitttteeee fit how it should. My resolution: plenty of tights and dresses. Oh, and your undies are a no-go too! I just had to replenish this weekend. Why does no one talk about that part? There's nothing worse than uncomfortable underwear! My goal is a size 10 (my old size) my Dec 31, 2017. Right now, I can fit a 12 but cannot truly wear a 12 if that makes sense. I'll keep you updated on my journey. A quick look into my eating habits:

Oatmeal or cereal with a small glass of OJ and half a travel mug of coffee as black as I can take it to go. Since I've been sick, I replaced coffee with tea.

Snack bar mid morning

Usually leftovers from dinner the night before or a low calorie dinner with a protein and veggies. Sometimes I'll go to a local soul food drive through spot and order all assorted veggies.
Bolthouse Smoothie

Post work snack bar

Home cooked meal whatever that may be, no seconds.

I really don't buy sweets so I won't eat them (pastries are my weakness). I'd have something small and sweet to eat one or two times a week. Fruit and nuts have become my dessert.

I'm so close to launching my baby, Diva's Marketplace. I've settled on April, my birth month. I've wanted my own little shop every since I was young.  I'm still working out a few kinks. I can tell you this, I will launch one product at a time and add on as I get my routine going. I am making all the products myself unless I carry another business in the shop, but I'll let you know. Because of this, volumes will be on the lower end. Even though it's digital, I want the vibe to be like that little shop in your city where you go to get your unique goodies that you can't find anywhere else. I can't wait! Follow the shop on social:
 IG and FB: @divasmarketplace
Twitter: @divasmarketplc

Also, my laptop is on the fritz (I take it to the shop tomorrow), so all of this is coming from my phone. I accidentally deleted an entire paragraph that was supposed to be here, but you know what? I'm ending things here. LOL.

I'm off to make that tea I mentioned and chat it up with my dad.

Peace & Love,
