Trending Thursday: Pins, Brooches & Buttons

Continuing with the last Trending Thursday, where we discussed the patch craze, I decided to throw in pins, brooches, and buttons.  Brooches are no longer your grandmother's priced accessory. They come in fun offerings that appeal to the younger generations. Buttons and pins also have endless options in prints and fun catch phrases from pop culture. You can make then as casual or dressy as you like and use them to showcase your personality. Check out how the trend is worn below.

The Latest In Fashion News: Marjorie Harvey Released a Handbag Collection and I'm Geeked About It!

Listen. Listen, Linda. Listen. Every fashion girl has their "thing."  By "thing," I mean a small part of fashion that they cling to the most. For some, it's shoes. Others, jewelry. As for me? Handbags! Sure, I have my fair share of clothes, shoes, and jewelry, but handbags always held a special place in my heart, even as a little girl. So when I saw a picture on Instagram of fashionista extraordinaire debuting her clutch/muff, I thought "Really cute. Good for her because starting a line ain't easy. Let me see the color options"  Then I saw the collection, and my jaw dropped. My reaction may read dramatic, but I urge you to return to the part where I divulged I was a purse girl. Okay, let's get into the collection so you can be just as geeked as I am!

Product Review + PICS: Black Radiance Soft Focus Finishing Powder

Okay, it's the Monday after Thanksgiving and many of us are dragging our feet into the office. It is back to the regularly scheduled program for many. This includes myself and Diva Chronicles, so what a better way to get back into the swing of things by talking makeup? Let's talk about my love for Black Radiance's Soft Focus Finishing Powder.

Black Radiance Soft Focus powder worn on top of Blak Opal concealer.

I purchased this powder on a whim out of sheer curiosity about a year ago and fell in love. I wear the shade Milk Chocolate Finish. Honestly, I was surprised at how well it performed for the price point. I wore it on top of several foundations and concealers such as Iman,Clinique, Becca, and Black Opal concealer and it compliments all of them beautifully.

Black Radiance Soft Focus powder worn on top of Clinique foundation.

Bottom line, this is one of my favorite drugstore powders to use when I want to add a splash of color to my face for when I run errands or don't want to do a full face for work. It is medium coverage, so paired with a little concealer, I was good to go! Did I mention that this is my third one?!

Final Thoughts

Performance: Great! The powder photographs well as you can see in the above photos. I don't have that cakey powder look. It pairs well with my other complexion products. Therefore, I get my money's worth out of it, even if it was less than ten bucks.

Would I recommend to a friend? Yes!

Diva's Life: The Year I Blogged From My Phone Because I Couldn't Afford Internet + Try Because So Many Don't

Disclaimer: This has been saved in my drafts for a good minute. So keep that in mind when references to dates are off. These were my raw thoughts at the time and I don't want to edit them. I'm am finally ready to share.

People want to work in fashion and/or beauty, but let me tell you, they don't pay that great in the beginning. You have to love this ish man. This post was inspired by a recent blog post written by Claire Sulmers. She runs the mega online fashion mag Fashion Bomb Daily. On her personal blog, The Bomb Life, she discussed how one of her staffers was stuck in a rut in her post college life (I've been there, left there, came back, and trying to leave again.). So she offered more work to her on two occasions, the staffer declined both times. Then she got real with her.  If you want more you have to do more.

This reminded me of the year I blogged from my Samsung Galaxy 3 because I couldn't afford the internet. I hate looking at those posts, but they showed my determination to put Diva Chronicles out there. Between late 2013-2014, even the majority of 2015, I can say about 90% was shot, written, and published from my phone (I have upgraded twice since then, LOL!). I was also unemployed at the end of 2013, so when I went to the local library to apply for jobs, I'd publish a post. Some of my highest read posts are from that time period.

I could have easily given up. Blogging solely from a phone that overheats and shuts off is very inconvenient and annoying.  I just loved my site and wanted my end goal (digital mag) so bad that I sucked it up and did what I had to do to put content out.

Like Claire's staffer, I struggled between working in my field and pursuing my dreams. It isn't an easy decision but eventually she'll have to decide which direction she wants to take. I recently decided, and my transition was FAR from smooth or easy. Leaving a full-time job with benefits, moving, to taking on a part-time job at a major fashion retailer sounds crazy. But everyone's journey starts from that first step. If someone offers you an opportunity to give you more experience, you take it and figure it out along the way. Yes, you will have withdrawals from your former life. People will tell you what you're doing doesn't make sense. You will be advised to get a job just to get by and pay the bills. It will not be easy. As I said, so many people do not try. I at least want to try. I hope that young lady Claire mentioned at least tries.

P.S. I have new life updates since drafting this article, including two more streams of income in addition to the one noted above. I will spill more details  in another post.

Beauty Discussion: Get This $1 Moisturizer and Thank Me Later

Happy Saturday Folks!

I just wanted to pop by the blog and tell you about one of my fall/winter staples. It is the  Nivea Creme moisturizer. This particular one comes in a cute little tin that fits in your makeup bag, desk drawer, clutch or wherever you want to stash it. It is thick and creamy, so a little goes a long way. It usually lasts most of the fall/winter months for me. I love how it leaves my face soft and supple.

I know you are going to pop by a grocery store at some point this weekend. So when you do, bee line it to the makeup aisle and pick up one or three!

Happy Shopping!
