Diva's Guide to Blogging: 3 Picture Angles That Helped Me Drive Traffic and Gain More Likes on Social

One thing I never thought about when I first started blogging was the importance of variety amongst my photos. I captured everything as if I was staking a photo of myself and things quickly got stale. I wonder how many of my colleagues produced such well received photos on their websites and social. Then I realized their pictures were slightly different.  Here's how I was able to drive more trafiic to my blog and on social by my change my photo angles.

1. Eye Level

This allows you to have whatever you want to showcase in the forfront while adding visual interest in the back.

2. At An Angle

Taking pics at an angle showcases the focal point as well as related background objects that add visual interest.

3.  From Above

This angles gives you a birdseye view and you can add more items in the pic.

That's it! What hacks have you learned while blogging?

What I Wore: Ten Year Class Reunion Homecoming Game

I thought I'd post a quick outfit post before I have to jet. I don't post OOTD's often but decided to show you guys what I wore to the homecoming football  game. I have been out of high school for TEN years! It's still hard to wrap my head around. I graduated college five years ago. I'm holding on for dear life during these last few years of my 20's. Enough rambling and on to the outfit. Details below.

Bag: Aldo Westerling Satchel Similar Here, Purple Turban, Camo Button Down, Denim Shorts, Faux Suede Boots Similar Here

This ensemble is a bargain. I looked high and low for a day and a half for an oversized denim jacket with no luck. So I had to rethink quickly on what I wanted to wear to the game. Our high school colors are purple and gold, so I knew I wanted to incorporate those colors into my outfit without looking like I was trying too hard. Or look like I was one of those super fans you see at the games on t.v. I'm a fashion girl, ya know? So I settled with an oversized men's camo button down from a discount store, my class reunion shirt, shorts, and heeled faux suede boots. I accented with a green bag, purple turban, and gold accessories.  It worked out in the end.

In late September-October in the south, you will experience cool mornings and nights and warm to hot days. Well, that's what I was expecting the night of homecoming and dang near FROZE! It was hot all week, and this one night the wind decides to blow and the temp decides it wants to feel like 50 degrees. I was committed to my outfit and stuck it through.

Diva DI: Easy Denim Choker

The resurgence of denim has hit us hard. You see in denim boots, denim with patches, sparkle, and both oversized and fitted. What has also become popular are denim accessories, specifically the choker. I'm sure you can buy one, but I decided to make use of a pair of my old jeans and one myself. So I gathered my supplies and put on watched Luke Cage (for the first time) and got to work. Instructions on this trendy accessory are below.

You Will Need:
  1. Cut waste band from a pair of jeans (or shorts)
  2. Scissors
  3. Thick needle
  4. Pin (I used my needle as my pin)
  5. Thread (I ran out of blue, but choose a color close to wash of your denim. If you can't find a similar color it's not biggie, It won't be seen.)
  6. Pen or marker

Step One: Measure Your Neck

Now, I'm sure there maybe be a more efficient way to do this, but this is what worked for me.

  1. With the button closed, place the denim fabric around your neck and pull backwards. The button should be in the center of your neck.
  2. Pinch the fabric on both sides as close to you neck as possible that feels comfortable for you.
  3.  Move your fingers back (away from you) about an inch, then make a mark with your pen. This is where you will cut off the excess fabric.
Step Two: Prepare for Sewing

  1.  With the newly cut fabric, remeasure your neck as instructed above in numbers 1 and 2.
  2. The excess fabric (about an inch), fold that inward.
  3. Remove from neck, while keeping one or both side folded inward.
  4. Pin the folded sides, cut off half an inch of fabric past the pinned area. This allows for a more close and comfortable fit of the choker.
Step Three: Sewing

  1. Turn the choker inside out. This allowed the seam to face the inside of the choker.
  2. Sew the two pinned sides securely. Check durability, by tugging firmly, but gently. The thread should not come out.

Last but not least, enjoy your trendy new accessory!!

App Review: Beaumoji

Happy Friday Everyone!

I took an unintentional break, but that's what life does. It throws curveballs you don't see coming. I go into why I haven't posted much this week on the site or social media on my Instagram Stories, so head there before they're gone if you want those details. Anywho, while I was away, I downloaded the Beaumoji app,  because it was a beauty girls dream! Well, at least I thought so. I wanted to love it, but it was not Android friendly. Yes, I'm still team Android, and my Galaxy Note has yet to blow up. Just saying.

Let's get into the review.

App Description:
The ultimate emoji haul….introducing Beaumoji, the new emoji keyboard for all things beauty and beyond that lets you and your squad stay on fleek! Attention beauty junkies: the days of #basic beauty emojis are over. Beyond the kiss emoji, the hair flip emoji, the lipstick emoji, Beaumoji offers so much more! For all your beauty moments, we’ve got the new emoji app for you: Beaumoji.

View of my keyboard once downloaded on my phone.

Free emoji keyboard!
• Choose over 100 Beaumojis!
• All of this plus an integrated QWERTY keyboard will work with your favorite messaging apps: iMessage, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, email & more.
• Beaumojis requires iOS 8.0 or later

View of my keyboard once downloaded on my phone.

My Thoughts:

One thing I did notice was diversity among the emojis in regards to race and sex.  I applaud Beaumoji for that. I also liked that the emojis were separated by categories: beYOUtiful, Pampered Life, It Girl, and Iconic. This made finding the emojis I wanted to use easy for me. If only I was able to use them. Typing was a pain. There is no autocorrect and the floating keys got in my way, so I had to constantly correct myself. I can't use an emoji while in another app. I have to first choose the emoji then share it with the app I want to use it in. What if I'm already in Facebook, Twitter, or my text messages? It makes me come out of the app then go back in. I don't like that. This ultimately made me unistall the app on the second day. I just couldn't continue.

Compatibility: Apple and Android
Memory Storage: (Per my phone Samsung Galaxy Note 5): Total 60.20 MB.
Lagging: None experienced. My phone did not run slower while I was in the app.
Crashing: Some rare crashing was experienced.

So it is safe to say that I am back to using my default keyboard. Have you tried Beaumoji? What are your thougts?

Diva's Guide to Blogging: Mastering the Art of the Messy Photo In 3 Simple Steps

If you look closely, you may have noticed that "messy" photos are really popular on social media. Many beauty bloggers take makeup clutter photos, food bloggers capture photos with flours and utensils everywhere, and DIY bloggers often snap glitter confetti. What you may not realize is that these pictures are not as haphazard as they seem. They are often used to showcase product while making it seem effortless. If you want to know how to achieve the perfect messy photo, continue reading.

1. Choose a Focal Point

As you can see above, the Iman BB Creme is in the center and all the other products surround it. The entire product may not be able to get in the picture, but that is okay.

2. Show All Labels

Make sure that any product that can be seen has a label showing. This makes the clutter look less messy if that makes sense.  It also serves as a good reference for your readers or followers if they want to purchase a product you showcased.

3. Use Angles

To make things more visually appealing, using angles. This makes the viewer look at everything in the photo instead of what is just in the center.

Check out how these bloggers made their messy photos look artsy.

 Color Me Courtney

Notice how you can see the labels in her products shown and almost everything is at an angle. You notice the tote bag first, then your eyes travel to other parts of the photo. Courtney also threw in items such as a camera, keys, and business cards.

The focal point is the cake, but candles, forks, hats, and confetti strategically placed to make a "pretty mess" add interest.'

When a cosmetic bag falls and makes the perfect mess.

There you have it folks. No go and make a mess!

Diva Cover Stories: Nicki Minaj for Marie Claire, November 2016

Nicki Minaj has been laying low in the public eye for the past couple of months, but still handling business behind the scenes. I still hear her on the radio being featured in the latest hip hop tracks, and she is still going strong with her Myx Fusions Moscato line. She nabbed the November cover of Marie Claire, and she is letting you know she is here to slay!

Inside the issue, she talks about the double standard the media showcases when a non-woman of color poses nude versus a woman of color. She also talks about the on going issue of deaths of African Americans at the hands of police.
