The Latest in Beauty News: Pat McGrath's Makeup Has the Beauty Community in a Tizzy

World renowned makeup artist, Pat McGrath has released products under her own label, Pat Mcgrath Labs. These include Skin Fetish highlighters and glitter lip kits called Lust 004, which come in three shade options. I saw on social media a week or two ago that she held a brunch for influencers to preview her makeup. Then her website crashed after people learned that Naomi Campbell wore Lust 004 to MTV's Video Music Awards last Sunday. I checked the site again while working on this post and the site is still down. Damn Pat! I'm not mad. Check out what fellow makeup artists and beauty influencers are saying about her products.

Celebs Supporting Small Businesses: Chrisette Michele

Small businesses always have to compete with the big wigs that produce similar products at a fraction of the price. However, certain celebrities like to put their coins in the pockets of pockets of small boutique owners instead of large corporations, thus driving more customers to the brand. Singer, actress, and entrepreneur, Chrisette Michele consistently highlights her items purchased from small businesses along with her designer labels. Get details below.

Diva's Life: Fun at Lake Murray

This past weekend I took a short road trip to celebrate my cousin's birthday.  The weekend was nothing short of good times. We wrapped things up with brunch on the lake followed by a boat ride.

Where to Eat:  Liberty Tap Room & Grill
Try: Marguerite or Pepperoni Pizzas, Freedom Burger, or Shrimp and Grits.
Location: 1602 Marina Road, Irmo, SC 29063

We headed out on the lake in a pontoon boat for a few hours equipped with libations and a blue tooth speaker. Some of the crew enjoyed tubing and swimming, while others (including myself), socialized and got the best naps complimented by a cool breeze on the water.

Definitely check out Liberty Tap Room and Grill and head out on the water if you're in the area.

What I Wore:
Dress: Ross
Hat: Rue 21 (old)
Jewelry: Charming Charlie  (old)
Tri-Color Jelly Sandals: It's Fashion (old)

Red Carpert Recap: My Favorite Looks from MTV's 2016 Video Music Awards

Last night, MTV held their famous Video Music Awards show in New York. Celebs showed up and showed out. I've rounded up my favorite red (figuratively speaking) carpet looks from last night. In no particular order, they are:

 1. Beyonce in Francesco Scognamiglio Haute Couture.

I loved this gown on Beyonce. She has really been stepping out of her fashion box as of late. Also, how cute is little Blue? Yes, cornrows!

2. Nicki Minaj in Bao Tranchi.

I just had a conversation with my cousin about Nicki being out of the spotlight lately. She made you remember who she was just in case you forgot in a beautiful cobalt sheer paneled gown.  I love the color on her more than the style of the gown, but she still looked great. She kept hair and makeup minimal as not to compete with the sexiness of the dress. Well done.

3. Britney Spears in Julien Macdonald.

A little black dress (LBD) never disappoints. Britney amped hers up with asymmetric hemlines and cutouts. She paired it with a sexy sky high black pump and wavy hair. She looked great.

3. Chloe and Halle in Rodarte

I love these two sisters' style. They give me boho glam if that's such a thing. They looked cool and confident on the carpet. They accented their ensembles with gold facial and hair jewelry. Beautiful

4. Nick Jonas in Louis Vuitton

Nick repped for the men in a Louis Vuitton bomber jacket straight from the runway paired with a simple white tee, black pants, and white canvas shoes

5. Ashley Graham in Naeem Khan

I hate to call this woman plus size because in my eyes she isn't.  She's just a curvy woman, but that's how this industry works. Anyway, she repped for the curvy girls in a sheer gown that was sure to make you look twice. Paired with a wavy short bob, she slayed.

Honorable Mention

6. Amber Rose in Tom Ford and La Perla

I love the look Amber was going for, but something was off to me. Maybe if she opened the blazer and wore a high waist pant to show off the bra, or amped up the neckwear, or wore a more tailored blazer since she wore it closed. She was close to the nail, but didn't hit it on the head for me.

7. Cassie in Balmain and Gucci

Same with Amber Rose, Cassie was almost there. I think I prefer the blazer closed with this look and the cleavage peeping through. It's as if Amber and Cassie would have wore the other's look as they did, their looks would have been spot on.

First lady Michelle Obama discusses with Variety how she uses her pop culture fame to make an impact.

Product Review + PICS: Nail Bliss Press On Nails

Real life has made keeping the momentum of the site a challenge, but I am determined to push through. This post is being published a little later in the day than usual, but better late than never, right? So lets get into it!

While perusing the aisles of Sally Beauty Supply after choosing my new hair color, I spotted this nail kit by Nail Bliss. They are press on nails and promise up to 10 days of wear. I'm a diva on a budget these days as my former nail salon visits had me constantly in my wallet. However, my real nails are not cute. So I keep them polished, use nail wraps or the occasional press on.

The set is a mauve color with silver glitter accent nails. It includes nail glue and a cuticle pusher. I applied the nails on 8/17.  It is the 7th day, so here's the run down:

One nail came off next day, like due to lack of glue as the rest of the nails were really snug. Another nail came off day 3 due to the work that I do. I reapplied both and kept it moving.

The nails came in a square shape but I filed them down and made them more squoval. They were easy to shape and did not pop off while I filed them. Without delay, lets get into my final thoughts.

Final Thoughts

Performance: I began losing stray nails on the second day as noted above. Overall, I replaced four nails in a seven day period. They were the nails on my index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers. I work in the fashion industry, so they could have lasted longer if I had a desk job. Hauling and constantly fixing clothes put up a tough fight.
Texture: The nails were smooth to touch, thin, and lightweight. They did not have that feeling of acrylic nails.
Would I recommend to a friend? I am willing to try another set with a better quality nail glue before recommending to a friend.

P.S. What nail glue do you recommend? I have seen YouTubers apply press on with acrylic, but wanted to find a better glue first.

Diva's Wish List: Juvia's Place, Nest Fragrance, Kate Somerville & More!

As we prepare for fall, I have a few beauty and skincare items on my wish list that I want to try. I'm in the market for a new fragrance, Juvia's Place palettes have been catching my eye for some time, and I'm all over ABH's new Stick to Flawless foundation. Kate Somerville products have been getting rave review and I tend to get patchy as the temperature drops, so I need a great moisturizer.

Trending Thursday: The 90's Choker Revamped Worn by Some of My Favorite Fashionistas

What goes around comes around sure rings true in the fashion world, doesn't it? However, is it me or does it seem as if trends are returning closer and closer together? I was just wearing wide legged cropped pants  (gauchos back then) in high school ten years ago, not they are back as a hot new trend. Now we have the resurgence of the choker. You know the black plastic intertwined necklace that just about every teen wore in the 90's? Yea, that one. However, some people have added their own spin to it. Check out below some of my favorite fashionistas wear the trend.
