Entertainment News: Jennifer Lopez 2015 American Music Awards Opening Performance

In what is being called one of the best award show openers in music history, Jennifer Lopez is on the tips of everyone's tongues and fingers as they are still talking and typing about her recent performance opening up the 2015 American Music Awards. While I did not catch the actual televised performance, I did catch up on line, and it was exactly what I expected from J.LO. She opened in a slower rendition of her hit Waiting for Tonight that showcased her vocals. Something tells me she did this because she wants people to know she is a singer first THEN a dancer and actress. #JMO. She is not particularly known for her vocals, but this performance was all voice. Then she got to the dancing. Her and her background dancer performed to hit tracks nominated for AMAs while wearing tribal inspired body stockings. Her sequinned jumpsuit and fur coat were by DSQAURED2 (Fashion Bomb Daily). Check out the pics and full performance below.

Beauty Discussion:5 Reasons Why You Need to Try Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks have had an increase in popularity over the past year or so although they have always been around. However, more brands are offering them in many fun colors. I have a few in my stash and I'm dishing why I love them and why you may too.

1. They are the perfect gloss and lipstick hybrid.

Maybelline The Elixir in Signature Scarlet and Vision in Violet, est $8

Basically liquid lipsticks are a softer lipstick with amped up gloss. You get pigmentation and shine

2. They're the perfect starters.

Covergirl Lip Lava in Mauva Lava (top) and Look It's Lava! (bottom), est $7

Not into makeup, but want to get your feet wet, but don't want the hassle of starting with a gloss or lipstick? Start with both girl!

3. You may neglect your lipsticks, and that's okay.
We all have a "my favorite lipstick melted" story. But what if your new lippie technically is already melted? I mean Too Faced literally named their liquid lipstick line Melted. Problem solved.

4. They are offered at all price points.

So the aforementioned Melted liquid lipsticks ring in at twenty one  bucks a pop. However, brands like Maybelline, Black Opal, Black Radiance and NYX have great affordable options.

5. They have major staying power. Eventually the gloss will fade, but a stain will remain.

Girl Talk: Why I Switched to Gel Deodorant

For years, I would get painful knots under my arms with no explanation.  They would be right where my bra rubbed against my skin so I thought it was just irritation.  Then while I'll have a knot, I'd  switch to lower cut bras or sports bras in hope it would eventually go away. Nope. After some research, I found out the culprit may be my deodorant, not my bras.

Enter gel deodorant!  The  white deodorants clogged my pores and left me with painful abscesses. I did not have this problem growing up, but our body changes as we get older. I now use either Almay or Dry Idea gel deodorant.  They are much milder for my skin and no abscesses for me! I have tried Toms of Maine, but it does not fight odor well enough for me.

If you have the same problem I had with more questions than answers, try switching your deodorant.  Let me know how it goes!

Things I Tried From Pinterest: Cajun Chicken and Rice

I'm an avid pinner. I have too many boards and that many more pins. One of my favorite things to pin are food recipes. I found a new spin on traditional chicken and rice by making cajun chicken and rice. Check out how I made it below.

Put on about a cup of rice and bring to a boil, then cook on low heat. I used Kroger brand Jasmine rice.

After thawing and cleaning the chicken, I chopped it up  into cubes and seasoned with cajun  seasoning. I used McCormick Perfect Pinch Cajun seasoning. I fried on medium to high heat in olive oil (or use oil of your choice) until brown on both sides then set aside on a separate plate.

Next, I chopped up one onion and green bell pepper and sautéed them on high heat in the same oil I used for the chicken. I also added a little more seasoning and oil.

Once the veggies were done, I added a can of Kroger brand diced tomatoes and green chilies and stirred.

Next, I added the chicken to the veggie mix and stirred. Note: excuse the stove, I do not cook neatly.

Added rice and stirred.

1 Onion

The Latest in Tech News: CODEGIRL Documentary

I came across a documentary on YouTube entitled CODEGIRL, that follows groups of teenage girls from all corners of the globe as they prepare for the Technovation competition. Technovation is a business and technology competition for teenage girls that requires the contestants to create an app  in just three months. The major requirements are that the app attempts to solve a problem in their community, develop a prototype, create a business plan, and submit a video to the judges. Over 300 high school teams entered and only 44 will make it to the semifinals. See who made the cut  below.

Cafe Review: Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party

So a few weeks ago, my friend and I decided while eating and drinking tea in the office, that we should find a tea house in Atlanta. While we had a nice list to choose from, we chose Dr. Bombays. Why "Underwater Tea Party" is a part of the name still alludes us.

For high tea, you must make reservations. The reservation window is between 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m and 24 hours in advance. In true Atlanta fashion, traffic was backed up on this particular Saturday and we almost missed our reservation. Well we did, the ladies were just kind enough to set the table back up for us. For their high tea service, you get to choose from an assortment of black, white, or herbal teas and nosh on sandwiches, cookies, and scones complete with in house made spreads.  Lemons, cream, and sugar are also served to accompany the tea.

While sipping tea, we were surrounded by walls of used books. It is more like a bookstore that serves tea and pastries instead of a pastry shop that also sells books. Are you following me? After we noticed the walls filled with pictures of little Indian girls, which prompted my friend asked for the story behind them. All books in the shop, no matter the size, sell for just $1. All proceeds help send girls in Darjeerling, India to school for Dr. Bombay's The Learning Tea project. Tea, coffee, pastries, and books for a cause! To learn more about The Learning Tea, click here

The cafe is small. Vintage lampshades, umbrellas, and art hang from the ceilings and the walls. Some people popped in for tea with a side of wifi, while others took theirs to go.

There is also seating outside for people watching.

1645 McLendon Ave NE
