Diva's Life: Vacationing with Lupus

My family  has a tradition  of getting  together at least once a year and going someplace sunny. The sun in general can be a beast, but I have to be extra cautious  since photosensitivity is a symptom of lupus. Here's  how I prepared for my vacation  in Orlando, Florida, and what I did during vacation to prevent a flare  up.

Preparation

1. Remember Medication: My advice is to keep it in it's  original  container, especially  if you're  flying. I got the blessing from my doc to go off my meds right before my trip (yay). However, I also made sure to bring over  the counter pain medication.  Aleve is my go-to when I'm  feeling achy.

2. The Wide Brimmed  Hat:  I packed a cute wide brimmed hat to shield myself from the rays, but I ended wearing my baseball cap to the parks.

3. Sunblock: We all need SPF. I made sure to get a least a SPF if 45 (researchers have proven the efficacy if a higher SPF doesn't change after 45) and makes sure it is water resistant.

4. Ask the Doctor: Ask your doctor  about  any extra precautions  you may need to take that you didn't think  of.

While on Vacay :

5. Comfortable Walking Shoes: Nothing  like a small leg and back flare caused by shoes reminiscent  of walking  on concrete.

6. Limit Sun Exposure: I play in the sun in spurts and relax in the shade. I also try to avoid peak hours. We went to both Disney and Universal in the evening when it was cooler and less sun.

7. Water: We bought a case of mini bottled waters and brought a couple of them and a few snacks with us to the park.

8. Rest Up: Unexplained fatigue comes with having  lupus.  You may tire before  the rest  of the crew, but that's  the body's  way of telling  you to slow down. Being  in the sun can be especially draining.  I'm  no stranger  to naps and have separated from the group to sleep and build my energy back up on more than one occasion. Don't  be ashamed, catch those midday zzzz's.

When You're  Back Home:

1.Ease Into Your Routine: This is something I still need to work on. I hit the ground running when I  got back and by end of that week, fell sick.  Sore throat, fever, aches and pains, you name it. I missed two and a half days of work because  of it. Do as I say, not as I do.

P.S. I'm  feeling  MUCH better today!!

DC Tech Tips: How To Change Your Primary Email for Blogger

So when I started my blog, I used my personal email  address. Big  no-no. Now that it's  years later and my blog has grown, I want to protect my personal information. So I went  to perform what I thought would be a simple  task, and it turned  out to be a lengthy process. After some research,  because  the instructions  aren't in your  blog's help center, this is what I found out:

1. From you Blogger dashboard,  click the drop down menu and select "Settings."

2. Once on the Settings page, select "add authors." Be sure to enter the new email address.

3. Login with the account you want to use, accept the invitation, then logout.

4. Login to your  old account and  upgrade  the new account  to an admin, then logout.

5.  Login  with your new account, go to the Blogger settings  and delete  your old account's email address, then logout.

6. Login  with your new address  to see if it works. Hopefully  it should.

I don't  know why Google doesn't  make this information readily  available, but I  hope this helps if you're in the same situation I was.

*Note: An easier way to do this, I later found out is to do this with two different  browsers, i.e Firefox and Chrome, to keep from logging in and out.

The Latest in Beauty News: MAC x Selena Quintanilla Slated for 2016 Release

If you are a true lover  of music, then you've heard of the late  Tejano music sensation Selena Quintanilla. She rose to fame in the latin community  singing spanish, then made her popular crossover album not longer before  her premature death.  Selena is one of my favorite  singers. Even though my spanish is splotchy, I know the words.  That goes  to show music has the power to cross  many barriers. It is a language all it's own.

Selena loved fashion and beauty, so I think it is long overdue that the brand famous for collaborations partnered with her brand. MAC has the Selena collection slated for 2016. I expect many berries, reds, golds, and matte formulas. Get details below.

“Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out have, have left a colourful, meaningful impact in the world, that has continued to grow over the last two decades. We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies M·A·C’s philosophy. We are so excited to announce a Selena inspired M·A·C collection debuting in the latter part of 2016.” — James Gager, MAC Senior Vice President/Group Creative Director

“I am so excited that M·A·C Cosmetics will be releasing a collection in honor of my sister Selena. Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day. If Selena were here she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made.” — Suzette Quintanilla (Selena’s sister)

The Latest in Fashion News: Blogger Karla Deras Debuts The Line by K

I've  been following the very  stylish Karla on her blog, Karla's Closet for a few years now. Her style has always been what I call simple and chic. She is bringing  her style to the masses with her latest venture, The Line by K. Here is what she had to say about her collection:

"I basically  wanted to make things I wanted in my own closet, but couldn't  find in stores. The Line By K is a collection designed  to make you feel sexy, strong, and comfortable."

The Latest in Fashion News: Singer Chrisette Michele Debuts Rich Hipster Belle Clothing Line

One of my favorite singers released a video  dishing the details of the soft launch of her clothing line held this past weekend  at the Essence Music Festival.  The line is already  fetting mixed reviews. I've read a few  comments on Facebook from a few indie clothing designers who were none to pleased with  the line. One likened it to a "Instagram Boutique", which  is not a compliment. In the video she shows a few sample pieces. Check them out below.

Entertainment News: Rihanna's B*tch Better Have My Money

Rihanna's  latest  videos hit the airwaves, and people  are talking.  So far the reviews  are mixed. It is too dark and gruesome for many. Form your opinion after watching.

Diva's Life: The Year Is Half Over and This Is What I Learned

Today is July 1, 2015! We are officially in the second half of the year. January  seemed like yesterday.  This just goes to show that time waits on no man. Because  of that we can't become complacent. I made a vision board at the top of they year and it has been full steam ahead to put in the work to make sure my goals are accomplished. Check  out what I have achieved  so far.

1. Purchased doman for Diva Chronicles. The blog now is a  .net. I wanted .com, but that isn't  in the budget at the moment.  Apparently  I  have a "premium domain". That may be on next year's vision board.

2. Purchased domain for Diva's  Marketplace. I've  been working on an artisan focused shop for some time now. It's  still under construction (mainly because  I've been doing the constructing). I have been working on the marketing materials in my spare tims. The latest Microsift Suite is bomb! There is basically no need to outsource.

3. Apply to graduate  school. I have decided  to undergo the daunting  task of graduate  school four years after receiving  my bachelors. I'm  excited and nervous all over again. My interview  was yesterday, I'll  keep you posted on the outcome. The blogging schedule  might  change because  of that.

What did I learn so far? Make a plan and work it. Months fly by fast and getting  lazy is not an option when you have goals you want to accomplish.  I am always working  on one of my projects in my spare time. Gotta put  in work!

I hope this inspires you to keep pushing forward with your goals.
