I'm taking a walk down memory lane with today's Fashion Flashback, all the way to 2006. That's when a weird yet trendy clear jelly sneaker hit the scene called Melissa's. Naturally, I was attracted to them because they were different. They made your feet sweat in the summer but I didn't care! *lol*
It was two years ago when I wrote this post disclosing that I have lupus and giving a brief description of what it was. Fast forward to 2015 and I still have lupus and like so many like myself, hoping to get a little closer to a cure. Many advancements are being made, due heavily in part to advocates like myself. I raise awareness using my platform (this blog) and by helping to raise funds for the Atlanta, GA chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America. Most of the money stays in Georgia and goes towards research funding Emory Hospital, the official hospital if lupus research and to the local community in the form of workshops that will educate people about this disease.
I have formed a team, D.I.V.A.S. for Lupus, and my goal is to raise $1000 . To date, I have $870 to go. I ask you please find it in your heart to donate. The site is secure and you will receive your tax receipt at the end of the process. For more information, I have left some links for your research below.
I came across some designers I haven't heard of and their pieces via the International Fashion Showcase hashtag on Instagram. This event is being held at London Fashion Week. Designers from all over the world are introducing themselves and their designs to show goers in an exhibition type presentation. Check out some of my favorites below.
That phrase will forever live on in music history and will always refer to when an artist releases music without any promotion. Drake pulled a "Beyonce" with his new mixtape IF YOURE READING THIS ITS TOO LATE, which dropped on the sixth anniversary of his mixtape that catapulted his stardom, So Far Gone. I got word this weekend, and could not wait to share it will you all for Music Monday. The piece of work has 17 tracks, and so far I like what hear.
I haven't done a favorites in a while and I decided to make my first of the year about my favorites in my daily routine. I broke it down into steps. Check them out below.
I've really been enjoying the benefits of a mask. Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque is inexpensive and my current favorite. I apply it with a synthetic foundation brush from Target. I allow it to work it's magic for 5-10 minutes then I wash it off. I use this before the shower every other day.
I picked up a cleanser and exfoliator a few weeks back and I love them both. The cleanser is gentle, doesn't strip your skin, and the smell is a plus. I'm used to harsher exfoliators (i.e. apricot scrubs), so this one took some getting used to. It feels like the cleanser only with beads and it doesn't foam. My skin likes it, and it helps aleviate those pesky winter dry patches. I cleanse everyday, and exfoliate every other day.
Tone & Moisturize:
I've been trying to incorporate more natural products in my day-to-day routines, not only because they are cost efficient with their multiple uses, but because my skin has become more sensitive the deeper I get into my twenties. I tone with a homemade concoction of water, witch hazel, and lemon juice. I moisturize my hair with olive oil while it's still damp from the shower. I use pure coconut oil for body and whatever's left on my hands I use for my face.
My night routine includes Mario Badescu's Drying Lotion for pimples and pure vitamin e for hyper- pigmentation as needed.
This song has been buzzing for the past week. I have to say I am feeling it. Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney joined forces to create Four Five Seconds. The trio performed this song at last night's Grammy Awards, and it was one of the most anticipated performances of the night. I loved it. Here's the original video below.
"There is a supreme moment of destiny...calling on you life. Your job is to feel that, to hear that, to know that, and sometimes when you're not listening you get taken off track. You get in the wrong marriage, the wrong relationship, you take the wrong job, but it's all leading the same path. There are no wrong paths."
This is one of my favorite quotes from Oprah's discussion at Standford's Graduate School of Business last year (shame on me for just now seeing this). Check out the full video below.
"The way through the challenge is to get still and ask yourself what is the next right move?"
If you could wear fashionable destinations around your neck like a fur stole, Studio 54 would be the ultimate accessory. The who's who of fashion, music industry and culture were all spotted there. Even if they were underage. Check Diana Ross getting DOWN on the Studio 54 dance floor below.

I rarely discuss hair and hair products because I feel everyone should find what works best for them, and what works for me tends to be natural oils and water. But I felt compelled to share. So I haven't straightened or had my ends clipped in two years (afros are convenient) !! Eeeek!! Every now and then a change is needed. I wore straight hair for two weeks (yes, I got my ends clipped) and this was my up do before I washed it and bounced back to my kinks.
My hair wouldn't even lay right with my split ends. A quick trip to the salon for a trim and I had body. My hair falls to the top of my shoulders; monumental growth after a big chop a year ago. Sadly, this is the only photo I manged to take. After two weeks, it was wash day, and I have no signs of heat damage.
The morning after my wash. I missed my coils! Every since going natural, my hair grows like weeds. My diet is a work in progress, I always drink water, but much of my growth is attributed little to no manipulation.
