Look for Less: Finsk vs Lolli Couture

While I'm all for paying for quality and supporting unique designs, that often comes with a hefty price tag. I must stick to my budget (I have a businesses to get off the ground, darn it!). I've been coveting a pair of Finsk Project wedge for years, but am not in the position to splurge on the $999.95 price tag. I love the architectural characteristic of the shoe. I thought I was just going to have to count my pennies, until a friend introduced me to Lolli Couture.

Product Review + Pics: Iman Cream to Powder Foundation

I raved about the Iman Cream to Powder foundation in my post titled, I Went Iman, and May Never Go Back, and now I'm back to tell you why. While I love a bargain, sometimes you have to pay for that color match and quality. I have noticed the best performing foundations from the drugstore start at $10. Iman rang in at $13 and I have no complaints because of the quality. Iman could be sold for more at a department store, and it will still be justified. It's that great!

Things I Tried From Pinterest: Baked Apples

So I had two apples left in my fruit basket. I was feeling snacky (yes, I made that up), but didn't to eat them in a different way. I took to my mobile cookbook, better known as Pinterest, for inspiration. Okay,  I was looking for entire recipes. I'm not at that stage of cooking where I can just whip something up from scratch. I chose to bake my apples. Check out how below.

Diva's Fashion Guide: How Do I Mix Prints?

Reader, C.B. asks:

"Joslyn, how do I mic prints?"

1. Use Commom Colors

Solange is one if the best when it comes to mixing it up. Take this magazine spread, for example. Notice how the cobalt blue is being pulled from the shirt and an used accent color
in the accessories. The lines of the skirt and top are also going in one direction, which avoids your eyes darting all over the place. While the clutch adds a third print, it ties into the entire ensemble because of the blue color.

2. Mix & Elongate

Yes, Solange again. While this picture is old, this look is right on trend because black and white is hot this season. But back to the topic at hand. Using common colors shows itself again here. The songtress is where three prints, but all are in black and white. Both her blouse and blazer are contrasting prints going in different direction and could skew busy fast if it weren't for the pants. The long lines on her bottom half pull your eyes away from the top, thus creating balance.

3. Buy Pre-Mixed

While some may find delight in taking the time to search for prints to mix and find the right balance through trial and error; others may not feel the same way. Take the easy way out and buy your prints pre-mixed. The hard work has been done for you. Peter Pilotto for Target is a great example of how you can buy your mixed prints right off the rack. He is one of may designers that have diffusion brands that offer the similar looks for less. Check retailers such as TJ Maxx, Marshall's, Kohls, and Macy's for items that tickle your fancy.

4. Seperate Your Prints

You can opt to do what I do most often as I have shown here with a few pieces from my closet. Seperate your print top with denim or a pair of colored pants and let your other print be your shoes. It is a great way to step into into the trend without becoming overwhelming.

I hope can use these tips the next time you go shopping!

The Latest in Beauty News: Lupita Nyong'o's Lancome Endorsement

There was only a matter of time before a major beauty brand snatched up Lupita Nyong'o with a mega endorsement deal. Many expected it to be MAC, and I'm sure they had their bid in the hat. However, Lancome was the winner in the end. I think Lupita and Lancome mesh better the the trendier, pop culture centered MAC. Lancôme matches her classic, sophisticated style. See the details below.

Lupita on her new venture:

"I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history and
that I have always loved. I am particularly proud to represent it's unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated,  but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself. "

Well congrats to her and you know I'll post the ads as soon as they roll out.

Diva's Wish List: Jeffrey Campbell

It's early morning (8 am) and I'm already thinking about shoes. I spotted a pair of PVC loafers by Jeffrey Campbell on Instagram and that turned into a little wish list. Take a peek of what I'm coveting below.

Left: The Olympus gladiator sandal in Blue Wash. Gladiator sandals are still making waves, and I haven't purchased a pair because they were all starting to look the same. The blue pair is sure to amp up any spring or summer ensemble. For a more toned down look, they brand also offers the sandal in tan. Olympus retails for $220 via Jeffrey Campbell.
