Diva's Makeup Guide: Primers

The second installment of Diva's Makeup Guide for Beginners is all about primers. A primer is a product that is used before foundation to act as barrier between the skin and the makeup. There are numerous primers in many forms, so choosing one could be understandably overwhelming. While, many high end primers perform great, there are some gems in the drugstore for those getting their feet wet in the makeup pool. They are inexpensive so there is little guilt if it doesn't work out. Check the details out below!

1. Monistat Soothing Care Itching Relief Powder Gel- Don't let the name fool you ;). The ingredients are very similar to those found in Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer. Both are silicone based, great for oily skin. (currently using)
2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Primer- Your skin doesn't need to be mature to try this primer out. It is another silicone based primer and does a good job at fighting shine.
3. Rimmel London Fix and Perfect Pro- Rimmel offers two primer, the one above is geared towards oily skin. Try the other one in 001, if your skin is on the drier side.
4. Boots expert shine control lotion- A shine control product in a lotion form offers hydration and lasting power. This product is a good choice if you have dry skin.
5. Boots instant matte- Not forgetting about those we need a little extra help, this product is more of a loose fluid, than choices 1, and 2, but the job is does is the same.
6. L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base- A creamy silicone based primer that works great at smoothing skin and fighting shine.

NOTE: Yes, I am aware these are not all the primers available at the drugstore, these are the ones that I will highly recommend because I've tried them. I would suggest a more expensive high end primer.
