Diva On a Budget: Grocery Shopping for One
As I warm up with a piping hot bowl of soup, I thought I would share my tips for getting the most out of your budget when you make that trip to the grocery store and or famer's market. Not all of us are buying for families so our grocery baskets shouldn't look like it. These are some rules I set for myself when shopping. Check them out below.
1. Take Inventory: Go through your fridge, pantry, and cabinets and take note of what you need to replace. This keeps you from buying doubles....or triples.
2. List Necesseties: Before you plan your meals, list those important food items that will always be in the house no matter what. For example: cooking oils, spices, bread, etc. Place these at the TOP of your list. It's easy to get distracted in the grocery store and forget them.
3. Don't Plan Weekly Meals: Instead, buy enough to hold you for a day or two. I cannot count hoe many times I bought food for the week and ended up eating out because I had a taste for something else on any given day of the week. I now go by what I have a taste for. I felt like having soup today, so I bought three cans after work. Soup is the exception; it is always great to have in excess.
4. Don't Go Shopping Hungry: Ever gone grocery shopping starving and wonder why you bought enough food to feed your entire neighborhood? Studies have shown we buy more when your are hungry.
Thats all I have for now. What tips do you have?
