The Latest in Beauty News: Candy Yum Yum Now Permanent

The people over at MAC heard our cries and has made the popular Candy Yum Yum lipstick the newest addition to it's permanent line. Candy Yum Yum is a neon pink lip color with a matte finish. It sent lipstick lovers in a frenzy upon its release and was quickly sold out. Many people underestimated how it would sell and neglected to snag it the day it was released and therefore was left out ( myself included). Now we shall worry no more and we can pick it up anytime. Isn't that great? Big virtual hug to the great people at MAC. I will now have my new favorite spring/summer go-to lippie.

UPDATE: So naturally, I jetted to my local MAC counter to pick up the lipstick, but was told they will not be getting  it in until after the new year. Not to worry, the lipstick is available for purchase on the MAC website!

Happy Holidays from Diva Chronicles!!

I would like to wish all of you a Happy Holidays!! Please remember to reason for the season. It is easy to get caught up in the gift giving hooplah, and buying new outfits for holiday parties, but this time is best spent with family. As we have seen throughout this year that time is short, so we must cherish every moment we spend with our family. If you cannot spend this time of year with family, spend it with those close to you whom you love just as you would a family member. Also keep our deployed soldiers in your thoughts this holiday season. Many could not be with their families this holiday , which is all the more reason to cherish those moments we have with loved ones.

Happy Holidays!!

This mass murder occured at Sandy Hook Elementary School early that morning. While murder is no excusable whether it's an adult, teenage, or child, but it always hurts just a little more when youn children are involved. I pray for the families and friends who lost someone that day to a senseless act of violence. Also, prayers go out to the survivors who had to witness and experience such a horrific act.

Current Favorites: November 2012

It is not often I do a "Favorites" post, mainly because my routine does not change that drastically. However, I'd thought I'd make this Favorites post more elaborate; to include beauty, fashion, and hobbies! This way, you get to see a little more of who I am as a person. So lets get started!

  • Black Opal stick foundation- This is my favorite go to foundation. At $10 it won't break my budget. It is full coverage, so I often use it as a concealer when I'm not using it as a foundation. It is compact and perfect for traveling.
  • Black Opal loose powder- I love this powder just as much as the foundation. It is the perfect compliment to the stick foundation, and wherever the foundation goes, so does the powder when I travel.
  • Ruby Kisses gel line- LOVE! I use this liner everyday! It is so creamy and SO black.
  • Black Radiance blushes- My two staples are Toasted Almond and Warm Berry.I have other blushes from other brands, but  I gravitate towards these two all the time. Perfect for women of color.
  • Wet n Wild lipsticks- I have four neutral lipsticks from this brand that I rotate between. From the one dollar line, my favorites are 549A, 506A, and 508A. From the Megalast line 914C is my go to neutral.

Daily Inspiration: Be Comfortable With Being You

Last night singer Janelle Monae was among the honorees at the 7th Annual Black Girls Rock Awards which was televised last night(11-4-12) on BET. If you are unfamiliar with the awards ceremony's purpose, it was founded to honor black women in all fields who have been positive role models for young black girls. Janelle's speech was beautiful, but what moved me most was the end of her acceptance speech.

"I didn't have to become perfect because I've learned throughout my journey that perfection is the enemy of greatness. Embrace what makes you unique, even if it makes others uncomfortable."

Those two sentences summed up what Black Girls Rock stands for. Being you!

Diva Cover Stories: Gabrielle Douglas

Finally! The cover we've all been waiting for! After have repeat offenders on the covers this year, it was time for a fresh face. Two time Olympic gold medal winner Gabby Douglas lands the cover of the December  2012 Women of the Year issue of Essence Magazine. In my opinion, this should have been her second(or third, fourth, or fifth lol) cover. I wanted to see her face on all of my favorite magazines after her big win in London this past summer. Essence should have snatched her up then! Hmph! I digress.

I'm so happy to see Gabby on this cover. It is more than well deserved. I will definitely be picking this issue up. *Does happy dance*

Diva on a Budget: Do We Need a Side Hustle?

Hello All,

We are very aware of the current state of the economy and we have learned to adapt. Whether its cutting luxury spending, thrifting, or stretching out our family meals to now include lunch at work. We are making it work. One trend, however, that is increasingly on the rise is what is known as the side hustle.

A side hustle is a means of income (I'm referring to hustles of the legal nature) in addition to what you bring home from your 9-5. It could be anything, and most often than not, I've noticed, it has nothing to do with one's full time profession. I've read about doctors who design children's clothes on the side, lawyers who sell pies on the weekend, and a news anchor who decorates her friends houses in her spare time. The question is, is the side hustle just a means of bringing in more income into the household or is this the only way you can have that job with benefits and do what you love at the same time? The side hustle revolution is everywhere! I've read an article in Essence (or Ebony, I can't remember please forgive me) that actually encouraged their readers to take on a part time job. An article in a recent issue Better Homes and Gardens features several professional women heavily invested in their careers, all with side hustles in full effect.

Has the side hustle become the norm? If so, I'm behind! Where's my violin, or my makeup kit?

Beauty Discussion: Skincare, Keeping it Simple

I have revamped my skin care routine! Out with the old, in with the simple! That is not to say my old routine did not work for me, there were just too many products involved. So now, three is my magic number. I have been using the following products regularly for at least the last three months. Read on to find out more info.

Aloe Vera Gel has many using, sunburn relief being the most popular. However, when you turn the bottle around, you will see it can be used as a moisturizer, shaving gel, hair gel, and it even claims to even skin tone. I originally bought this product to serve as a hair gel, and my hair laughed at me for even attempting to lay it down with the stuff. Never being one to want to waste a dollar,  I tried it out as my daily moisturizer  I haven't looked  back since! This can be found at just about any grocery or drug store between $3-5.

The nails come in a pack of 24 so theoretically, you can get two applications out of them with replacement nails. They have a nice sized collection of colors to choose from as well.

Naya kept is simple and chic with a grey mid-drift top  with a high waisted skirt in the most beautiful shade if cobalt blue. To add a little fun and color to her look, she paired a pair neon yellow pumps to her ensemble. Her jewelry, hair and makeup were both kept simple, bit worked well with her entire look.

Amanda Stendberg is showing everyone their is a such thing as having style at thirteen. A simple black blouse jazzed up with a crisp summer white blazer and graphic print skirt. Instead of high heels that would age her, she opted for a pair of spiked loafers. A pop of color for the jewelry, a simple top knot, and simple makeup makes her entire look age appropriate and flawless.
