Diva Advice By: Constance White

In the October 2011 issue of Essence Magazine the Editor-In-Chief Constance White writes in her article(pg 18.) titled Young Black and Amazing 15 things she wants to say to the twentysomethings in her life. The list reads:

(1)Ask yourself, What do I want to be doing at 40? (2)Make a plan and work it. You can tweak it along the way. (3)Reach out. You don't have to do it alone. We're here for you. (4)Save a little bit every week, even a single dollar. (5)Don't accept negative things others say about you. If they have an observation, tell them to make it constructive. (6)You are respomsible for your actions. (7)Video dancer is not a profession. (8)Be aware of the ways pop culture may try to diminsh you. Reject them. (9)Be patient with people's shortcomings but not their bad behavior.(10)Know that you can love someone and still walk away. (11)Any job is better than no job. It's not forever. It's merely a stepping-stone. (12)Any man is not better than no man. (13)Men think about sex a lot. What's on your mind? (14)Whatever you dream, there's a Black woman who has already done it. (15)You can do it too.

Diva {MAKEUP} Chronicles: Covergirl's Powderpuff Pink vs Spellbound Lipsticks

Photobucket

Spellbound is in the regular Lip Perfection line and Powderpuff Pink is in the Queen Collection Lip Perfection line. Different packaging, same formula.

Photobucket

Spellbound leans more toward the hot pink side while Powderpuff Pink is a lighter shade of pink and is more of a bubblegum pink. However, Powderpuff Pink still has a warmness to it just like Spellbound. Both can be worn by women of all complexions and undertones.

Spellbound is on top and Powderpuff Pink is on the bottom.

My Thougts: Both lipsticks are great! They are both priced between $5-8 dependiing on if you buy them from a drugstore or a place such as Wal Mart or Target. Where you live also plays a role in price. They both have buildable coloe. You can wear them as a lipstain or as a bold "notice me" lipcolor. The formulation is awesome. It is not drying and not too smooth where the color moves around on your lips. This color is not going to go anywhere. That is also the problem. They are tough to remove as well. That's their only downfall. If you can get your hands on both I say buy both. I cannot pick one over the other so I cannot tell you which one to buy as I think both are very wearbable. It all dpends on if you prefer hot pinks over bubblegum pinks lol.

Diva {FASHION} Chronicles: {WO}Mens Wear

One of my favorite looks to wear and my favorite to see on other women is men's wear inspired women's wear. Women do androgynous so well. From vests, bow ties, neck ties, loafers, velvet slippers, to well tailored pantsuits. I LOVE IT ALL!! Here are some pictures of what inspires me when it comes to {WO}men's wear.

Diva {MAKEUP} Chronicles: At Home Makeup Remover

So my natural hair journey has led me into using non-cosmetic products for cosmetic purposes. During my journey to natural hair, I have become an avid reader of http://www.bglhonline.com/ (Black Girl With Long Hair). It was on this website where I was introduced to oil cleansing as an alternative to your typical facial cleansers. The two oils suggested were castor and olive oils. I was already using olive oil on my hair, but was reluctant to use it on my face being that I am a girl with oily skin. I must say that the combination actually works! I use about 40% castor oil and 60% oilve oil. Castor oil acts an purging oil causing all impurities to move towards the surface out of your pores. Oilve oil is the moisturizer so your skin will not feel stripped of moisture after you cleanse.

I apply the oil mixture on top of my makeup (I know it sounds crazy) and remove the makeup and excess oil with a warm washcloth. Both oils are great are removing those stubborn makeup products such as eyeliner and mascara. After I've washed everything off my face, I take the same mixture, this time using a pea sized amount, I'll remoisturize my face. The next morning my face feels so soft! I encourage you to try it.

Diva {MAKEUP} Chronicles

So one of my favorite things to do is play around in my makeup stash and come up with new colors. Today I used a lip gloss I wasn't to fond of by itself on top of a dark brown lipstick. The lip gloss is made my Wild and Crazy and the name of it is Je Je. The lipstick underneath is made by Ruby Kisses and is called Ebony.

Photobucket
The lipgloss by itself had very strong orange undertones. It was a very orange gold color, and since I already had a lot orange and bronze tones going on I decided to tone it down. BTW the lipgloss has a strong chocolate smell. It almost smells too sweet.

Photobucket
The final product turned out to be a great nude for my skin tone. I love it!

A Diva to Write About: Angela Simmons

If there is one woman who's style I feel flies under the radar it's Angela Simmons. She has been showing out this week during NYFW! Even though she has a stylist you can still tell she has maintained some sense of self in her outfits. She does not look like a walking mannequin. The style of her red carpet outfits are very similar to the style her day to day outfits, which I cannot say for most other celebrities. Her style (IMO) is simple yet sexy without overdoing it. Here are pictures of what she has worn so far(not in order):
